Agrimony has been used by herbalists for many years to heal wounds such as scratches and open cuts, by encouraging clotting and stanch bleeding. Externally agrimony can be used to help heal minor injuries, relieve conjunctivitis, varicose veins and haemorrhoids. Also known as Church Steeples, Cocklehur and Sticklewort. It is a bitter, slightly astringent herb used for relieving diarrhoea and vomiting; improves liver and gall bladder function and controls bleeding. It can also be used as a gargle for sore throat or gum inflammation.
It is an astringent and mildly bitter, also a helpful remedy for diarrhea and a gentle tonic for the digestion as a whole. Combined with other herbs such as Cornsilk it can be a valuable remedy for cystitis and urinary incontinence, and has also been used for kidney stones, sore throats, hoarseness, rheumatism and arthritis.
