Fagopynum esculentum (botanical name), but more commonly known as buckwheat, is a plant that is cultivated and harvested for its grain-like seeds and also used as a cover crop.
This grain-like crop might be mistaken to be related to wheat but on the contrary, it is not a grass. Hence related to sorrel, knotweed and rhubarb. Because these are eaten and are thus referred to as a pseudo-cereal.
